How the Okayest Fisher Podcast Preps You for a Summer of Bass, Crappie & Muskie
A Fishing Podcast for the Everyday Angler
Spring turkey seasons are wrapping up, and that leaves many outdoorsman with one thing on their mind, fishing! I love spending my summer fishing for bass, trout, and panfish. And just like when I’m hunting, I’m all in. I’m watching videos, reading magazine articles, and most regularly listening to fishing podcasts. On the topic of fishing podcasts, I’ve been diving into the Okayest Fisher podcast this spring in preparation for my summer fishing schedule. I have not been disappointed to say the least! If you are needing a new podcast to listen to in the truck or in the boat, I suggest you give them a try!
The Okayest Fisher Podcast is one of the longer-running podcasts in the Okayest Podcast Network. The show has been running since January of 2023 and is hosted by Greg Tubbs and Matt Streim. Both are Wisconsin natives and sure-fire fishing fanatics. The Okayest Fisher Podcast isn’t their only involvement in the outdoor industry either. Greg is regular co-host of the Okayest Hunter Podcast as well, while Matt is the owner of Weathered Oaks Game Calls. This gives them an added insight to the outdoors that only complements their fishing addictions. Combine their outdoor pedigrees with ability to not take themselves too seriously and you have the makings for an informative yet approachable podcast.
Why You Should Listen
Like I stated earlier, this is a very approachable podcast. You aren’t just listening to tactics and techniques listed like you are reading an encyclopedia. The hosts include a variety of guests and personal experiences to give the podcast some life. They touch on a variety of fishing topics as well including techniques, boat and graphing setups, destinations, and regular “shooting the breeze” sessions. They aren’t a species-specific podcast either. You can find episodes discussing bass, panfish, crappie, muskie, salmon, and even saltwater fishing. This podcast aims to provide something for every fisherman.
You can tell when listening to the Okayest Fisher Podcast that Greg and Matt are just as fired up about fishing today as they have always been. From the outside looking in, it doesn’t seem like a job to them. In regards to producing the podcast Greg states “I enjoy learning new techniques and tactics from other outdoorsmen. Being stuck in our ways is a fast track to failure.” Matt agrees with this sentiment by stating “the best part about doing a podcast is chatting and learning from like-minded people that I share a passion with.“ The essence of hunting and fishing is fellowship with others and this podcast captures that well.
This podcast is not here to make anyone feel dumb. It’s about sharing, education, and inclusion. “We are all in the same boat” Matt says. “We want to explain to the average fisherman, the guy who only gets to fish the select weekends, that he can still have a great time on the water. You don’t have to get an Instagram worth pic at every outing.”
Greg also drives home the point that they aren’t professionals themselves and isn’t afraid to ask the questions that listeners might not have the confidence to ask. In saying that, gaining knowledge is the ultimate goal. “If listener’s aren’t gaining knowledge from the show, hopefully they are at least getting some entertainment and encouragement to get out on the water.”
If you are a fisherman, the Okayest Fisher Podcast needs to find its way into your schedule. Whether you are looking for technical knowledge, entertainment, or just some encouragement, you can find it in this podcast. It’s fishing season, don’t be afraid to go all in.
